U.S. M1 Carbine I.B.M. Serial Number: 3,654,6xx BAVARIA RURAL POLICE Gendarmerie Rural Police, Salzburg Province Background I acquired my IBM Bavarian Carbine in March of 2006, from a private seller in Texas, after months of searching for a USGI IBM Carbine. I only really wanted an IBM manufactured M1 Carbine, but most were too expensive or too modified. I finally found this Bavarian listed online for sale, at warrifles.com. The man I bought it from had it for 15 years, rarely shot it, and kept it in great condition. He told me that he acquired it from a private seller 15 years ago in Beaumont, Texas. Beyond that point, the chain of ownership is lost. Barrel Group Barrel type 1 IBM 8/43 Front Sight type 1 S Barrel Band/Swivel type 1A swivel: KV-B (IBM) Gas Piston Nut type   Barrel Skirt type   Slide type 2 variation N9 (National Postal Meter) Operating slide stop type   "P" proof mark on the barrel is 5" behind the front sight, 2.5" in front of the handguard; "INTRAC KNOX. TN" in really tiny type, lightly stamped underneath the barrel, below the front sight. Slide partially eroded, but I think stamped in the box as "N" and the number "9" a bit over to the right from that; 4 digits along the slide that don't match the receiver. Stock Group Stock type 1 13 Handguard type 1 or 2 Q-RMC (Quality Hardware) & 13 Buttplate   type High-wood Type Stock - No markings in slingwell except for 4 numbers that don't match the receiver; inside along where the barrel fits in, stamped "13"; the stock has seen better days, and has obviously been sanded and repaired in a few places. Receiver Group Receiver type 2 IBM Rear Sight type 1 S Operating Spring Tunnel Housing type Recoil Plate type 3 "ROCK-OLA" "Bavaria Rural Police" milled in top of receiver along left side by bolt. Bolt Group Bolt type 2 S36 (Standard Products) Ejector type   Extractor type 1 R (Rock-Ola) Extractor Plunger type   Firing Pin type "R" on the extractor, no other markings visible, 4 digits of the receiver S/N electropenciled on top of bolt. Trigger Group Trigger Housing type W (Winchester) Trigger type no markings Sear type 1 SW-IP (Irwin-Pedersen) Hammer type HI (Inland) Trigger Spring type   Trigger Housing Pin type   Safety type 4 M inside C (post WWII rebuild part) Magazine Catch type 2A MN (National Postal Meter) Magazine Catch Plunger type   Trigger Housing has "LGK Sb" (LandesGendarmerieKommado Salzburg- rural police in Austrian state/province of Salzburg) stamped quite deeply on the underside of the trigger guard area, along with 4 numbers stamped under the "LGK Sb". 4 digits stamped on the back of the housing that don't match the receiver . Additional Information Leather sling included, marked "Stolla" (manufacturer) and "WIEN" (Vienna)... but it wasn't attached to the carbine when I got it. No oiler , wouldn't fit with sling in slingwell. Sling is also marked 1ABT.5C62. Don't know what this signifies. For inquiries, feel free to e-mail the owner... Return to The Armory
