This carbine was used by the Bavaria Rural Police, then the Austrian Gendarmerie in Tirol. This is one of the first carbines seen that has the Bavaria name still intact, that had a German V notch rear sight replacement. Bavaria removed the GI rear sight, then machined grooves in the rear sight platform, to reduce glare. They replaced the GI rear sight with an unknown manufacturer v notch rear sight, which they soldered to the carbine's receiver ring. The Austrians removed the German rear sight and replaced it with a U.S. GI rear sight. The silver solder job remaining on the receiver ring, is in the shape of the modified German sight base.
Tirol usually placed the entire serial number inside the stock slingwell and under the handguard. This carbine retains the four digits of the serial number, placed on the various parts by the Bavarians. The entire serial number, was not added by Austria.
