Deep hole for the operating spring was originally drilled very close to side and bottom of receiver. Hole is drilled all the way out the back of the receiver.
Part of a spring tube has been inset into the rear of the hole and staked in place.
This was a U.S. Ordnance approved repair for salvaging receivers.
