!! SEEKING YOUR ASSISTANCE !!The best evidence we have of where carbines served are the carbines themselves. What you see below may appear like a lot, however, because the agencies were de-centralized during the occupation, there was no central facility on the State or country level that marked them all consistently. Many of the carbines have markings that were used by one specific agency, without the name being spelled out or obvious. Even if the type of agency was spelled out, like the Bavaria Municipal Police or Rural Police, each municipality and each rural area often placed their own markings on the carbine. As one example, many of the carbines have part of the serial number on a number of parts. How much of the number, which parts it was placed on, where on the part, the font type, font size, and method of placing it on the various parts, was up to the agency or locale that used it. They were consistent for their agency or locale, and often differed from the other agencies and locales. This helps identify the different agencies and locales, without a name. Like a fingerprint. If your carbine has markings like any on this website, please consider sharing the information your carbine holds. Those who have, have helped you learn what you see on this website, which is reconstructing a small piece of American history of the U.S. M1 carbines. Without their assistance, this project would not be possible.
